Your vision connects you to the world. Over time, however, it becomes more difficult to see clearly. That is because your natural crystalline lens becomes larger and harder, preventing your lens from focusing as it once did. This inability to focus, or accommodate, is called presbyopia and its earliest symptom is a difficulty seeing things that are close up. Premium implants work like the eye's natural lens, allowing most patients to see images that are near, intermediate, and distant without the need for glasses.
At Associated Eye Surgeons, we offer different options for Premium Implants, which are often used to treat presbyopia and astigmatism.
Crystalens – This is a surgically implanted lens that replaces the aging lens in your eye. The revolutionary design of this lens allows the eye muscles to move it back and forth to focus – a flexibility not found in conventional implants. Surgery is performed in our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Sandwich, MA, on Route #130 in Heritage Park.
The Crystalens premium implant provides clear vision with minimal dependance on glasses. Most patients over 50 are good candidates for this procedure.
Toric Lens – The AcrySof Toric Lens is a foldable, single-piece lens that is implanted during cataract surgery to replace the clouded lens. The unique design of the AcrySof Toric Lens makes it possible to reduce or eliminate corneal astigmatism and it significantly improves uncorrected distance vision, independent of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
Toric Lens premium implant procedures are performed in our Ambulatory Surgery Center in Sandwich, MA.
In all premium implant procedures, optimal results may not be immediately apparent. It could take as long as one to three months for the full visual outcome to be experienced and most patients find that their vision improves with time.
